Why is my FPS so low on EndeavourOS compared to Debian?

I recently switched from using Ubuntu and Windows to EndeavourOS. After installing my desktop environment and essential packages, I fired up games on Steam and some tools for Roblox support, like Sober. However, I've encountered a major issue: when I tried using Sober, my FPS dropped to around 20, which is shockingly low since I used to get around 300 FPS natively and 400 FPS with Sober. I've played around with the configuration settings and even switched to OpenGL, but nothing has improved. Interestingly, Sober performed well when I tested it from a live USB. This makes me think there's something wrong with my setup or my choice of distribution. My system specs are as follows: OS: EndeavourOS 2026.04.01, DE: hyprland, Video: RX 7700XT, Processor: Ryzen 5 5600G, RAM: T-Create DDR4 2x8GB 3600MHz, Storage: 1TB Samsung 980 PRO SSD M.2, and an unknown HDD, PSU: Corsair CV650 80+ Bronze.

If you're using EndeavourOS with hyprland, it sounds like you’re encountering some common beginner issues. What specifically are you struggling with?

I used a preset configuration for hyprland because I’m still figuring things out myself. My main issue is the drastic drop in performance; my friends haven’t had this problem, so I'm a bit worried. Maybe I should ask elsewhere?

I did some digging and found a thread on the Steam community that discusses similar issues. It’s worth a read. Unfortunately, as it turns out, Roblox has been problematic on Steam for ages. Check it out!

From my perspective, one of the big advantages of using an Arch-based distro like EndeavourOS is the access to cutting-edge software. However, that can come with a learning curve, especially if you're not primarily gaming. I’m not a gamer myself, but I find it pretty satisfactory for general use.

I actually really like using Hyprland! I do quite a bit of typing, so it’s great that I don’t rely heavily on my mouse.

First off, make sure the GPU driver for your RX 7700XT is installed and enabled. If it’s not, your system might be falling back on software rendering, which can severely impact performance. It's key for gaming! Give that a check 🙂

I looked on the AMD website, but couldn’t find drivers for Arch. Is there an alternative way to get them, or do I have to mess around with the .deb files? Sorry, I’m really new to Arch!

It’s crucial to always provide details about your distro and system when you’re reaching out for tech support! A little tip for next time 🙂
