Why Is My Friend’s Laptop Slowing Down After Applying Thermal Paste?

I recently applied thermal paste on my friend's Toshiba laptop CPU to fix shutdown issues during long YouTube videos and while playing old games. Before applying the paste, the laptop would shut down under those conditions. Now, it stays on but is lagging during normal tasks and when playing games like NBA 2K14. The laptop has an Intel Pentium CPU, integrated graphics, 6GB of RAM, and runs on an HDD. What might be causing the lag?

Did you change anything else besides applying the thermal paste? Sometimes, if things aren’t reconnected correctly or dust builds up, it could lead to performance issues. Double-check the fan connection, too.

The lag you're experiencing might be due to the Intel Pentium CPU. It's not the best for multitasking or demanding tasks. You should consider upgrading to a better CPU if he uses it more heavily in the future.

Just to toss in a thought, ensure the fan is still working properly. It’s easy to accidentally leave it disconnected when you’re working inside the laptop. If it’s spinning, that's good, but if it isn’t running at full capacity, that could explain the lag.
