Why is My GPU Only Hitting 65% Usage?

Hey everyone! I've been noticing that my GPU isn't really working to its full potential; it only reaches about 65% usage at most. Here's what I have in my setup:

- CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X
- Motherboard: MSI Tomahawk X570 WiFi
- RAM: 4x16GB G.Skill Trident Z neo 3600MHz CL16
- GPU: RTX 4080 Super FE
- PSU: Seasonic Focus GX1000
- Storage: Samsung 990 Pro 1TB
- Monitor: MSI Artymis 343CQR 1440p, 21:9, 165Hz, but limited to 144Hz

I usually play games like Elden Ring, RDR2, Alan Wake 2, and World of Warcraft. Can anyone help me figure out why the GPU is not hitting that 99% mark? Thanks a ton!

What settings are you using for Alan Wake 2? At 1440p, high settings should definitely stress your GPU more. If you’re using path tracing and ultra settings, I’d expect higher than 65%.

I have everything set to ultra with path tracing and it peaked at 67%.

It’s probably related to the FPS limits either in the games or through your Nvidia settings. Double-check your configuration there.

I deactivated both in Nvidia settings and within the games!

It makes sense for Elden Ring to be lower since it's locked at 60 FPS. For the other titles, you might be capped by your monitor's refresh rate. Have you checked if V-Sync is enabled? What kind of FPS are you getting in those games?

V-Sync is off and I’m getting FPS without any locks!

How are you monitoring your usage? Sometimes the readings can be off if the software isn’t accurate.

I’m using multiple tools like HWMonitor, Aida64, and the Nvidia app to cross-check.

What's your CPU’s usage like? For Elden Ring, hitting a ceiling of 60 FPS isn’t surprising, but the other games should push your GPU harder.

Yeah, Elden Ring is capped. I check my CPU and it’s maxing out at 75%.
