Why is my GPU underperforming in games?

I've got a 1650 Super and I've been trying to play Clair Obscur, but it's a really rough experience. I thought it was just a poorly optimized game since it's made with Unreal Engine 5, but then I found a video where the guy is running it on low settings with TSR at 70% and getting 40-50 frames per second. I'm running it on low settings too but with TSR at 40%, and I'm only getting around 20 frames. My GPU shows 100% utilization, and I don't think anything is bottlenecking it. I've updated my drivers, but I'm still struggling to figure out what the issue is. Has anyone else experienced this kind of problem?

Considering the 1650 is a lower-end GPU that's a few generations old, it's expected that it struggles with the latest titles. Have you thought about upgrading to a used 30 series card? That might give you a decent boost without needing to change much else.

How's your CPU performing? It might be throttling your performance a bit.

I have an i5-10400F, and it never goes over 75% utilization, so I don’t think that’s the issue. But I’m not super knowledgeable about CPUs either.

First off, can you share your entire PC build? Knowing the specs really helps. Also, is everything installed on an SSD? Don't forget to check your GPU temperature and make sure your monitor is plugged into the GPU and not the motherboard.

Sure! I've got a 1650S, an i5-10400F, and 32GB of DDR4 3200 RAM. My PSU is around 600W and I have a 2TB SSD. My GPU runs at about 65-70 degrees Celsius when under load. Yes, it's installed on the SSD and plugged directly into the GPU.
