Why is my home WiFi so slow on my PC but fast on my phone?

For the past three years, my home WiFi has been either incredibly slow or constantly bugging out on my PC. It's puzzling because the same WiFi works great on my phone. So, I tried using my mobile hotspot on my PC, and it was fast with no lag. It doesn't make sense! My home WiFi performs well on my phone, even when it's further away from the router than my PC. If the hotspot works fine, then my PC doesn't seem to be the issue either. I've heard from some AI that maybe it's an adapter problem, but I'm not really tech-savvy. There's a USB device labeled "D-Link" that makes WiFi work on my PC, and I'm assuming that's the adapter. What could be wrong with it? The AI suggested getting a better adapter, but I'm hesitant to buy something without knowing for sure it will fix the issue. I've also heard about using a USB extension cable to bring the adapter closer to the router, but I don't have one of those. Typically, my home WiFi on my PC shows only two bars, while the same WiFi on my phone usually has max bars. Should I just look into buying a new adapter?

It sounds like your phone's antenna might be picking up a stronger Wi-Fi signal than your PC's adapter. Since you mentioned the adapter is a D-Link USB device, it might not be as powerful as you need. If you can, check if using an Ethernet cable is an option for you, as it could provide a much more stable connection.

I'm pretty inexperienced with this stuff, but I think an Ethernet cable is a direct connection to my router, right? Unfortunately, I can't do that right now. If I can confirm that getting a better wireless adapter will definitely solve my issue, then I’m ready to buy one.
