I've been using my iPhone 8, which I got second-hand about four years ago, and it's generally been reliable. Recently, though, it crashed while I was driving and now it keeps shutting down shortly after I unplug it from the charger. Sometimes it falsely reports its battery at around 10% even when it shows 100%. I've already tried a soft reset, but that didn't help. Does anyone have ideas on what could be going on?

About the pre-used thing, it seems redundant! But let's focus on that crashing issue—a lot of devices have similar problems due to battery aging. A battery replacement might be the simplest way to breathe new life into your phone. Just make sure to check and see if the repair shop is reputable!
Definitely a battery issue. When the battery voltage gets low, the phone can struggle to gauge its capacity accurately, which leads to unexpected crashes. Replacing the battery could fix this for you. Your iPhone 8 is a bit older, classified as vintage by Apple, but they might repair it if they have parts. Your best bet could be getting a good third-party battery replacement from a trusted repair shop.
It sounds like your battery might be on its last legs. I dealt with a similar issue on my old iPhone 5s, and it turned out to be a dead battery. Try checking the battery health in your settings; if it says "Service Needed" or something similar, it might be time to think about a new phone since the iPhone 8 isn't getting software updates anymore.
I highly recommend considering your options as you might be better off upgrading.
