Why is my laptop’s RAM usage so high when I have nothing open?

I've got a Lenovo Ideapad Gaming 3 that I've used for about 3-4 years. Lately, I've noticed that my RAM usage is unusually high, showing 6-8 GB used even when I don't have anything open. I've run a RAM diagnostic test and scanned for viruses, but nothing seems to be wrong. Task Manager doesn't show anything using that much RAM either. Should I consider a factory reset, or is there something else I should try?

What you're seeing might actually be normal behavior. Windows 10 and 11 tend to cache a significant amount of RAM (around 50%), which is then available for use when needed. So, even if it looks like a lot is being used, it’s not always a problem. It's designed to help improve performance for applications you might open later.

That makes sense! I guess as long as my laptop is running smoothly, I shouldn't worry too much.
