Why is My Memory Filling Up So Quickly with the Free Version?

I've been using the free version of ChatGPT without any issues until now, but suddenly my memory seems to be filling up way too fast. Conversations are disappearing, and I can't continue my work as usual. I noticed there were some updates to memory today, but it honestly feels more restrictive. I've got both 'reference saved memories' and 'reference chat history' turned on, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I even tried turning them off, and things just got worse. Is anyone else experiencing this? Any tips on how to fix this or at least make it work like it used to?

You know, the memory slots each have a character limit. If you copy everything to a note app, clear your memory, and then ask ChatGPT to crunch the data and reduce redundancies, that might free up some slots for you.

I feel you! I'm often hitting that 98% mark too. It’s a pain when everything just disappears. Have you thought about backing up your memory first? That's something I do every now and then.

It seems like they're intentionally throttling the free version to push people towards paying. It's pretty frustrating. Totally classic business move.

You might want to consider that in the free version, you're limited to about 15 memory notes or so. If you're managing to get the model to behave, you could try asking it to output your conversation as a JSON object and then feed that back in during a new session. Sometimes it's a hit or miss depending on how you word that command.

ChatGPT mentioned it can consolidate slots, so instead of having separate entries, you could combine multiple topics into one memory note. I’m not sure if that’s the most effective way, but it might help reduce the memory load.
