Why is my monitor stuck at 60Hz instead of 240Hz?

I recently powered on my PC after school, and I've noticed that my monitor, an Asus ROG STRIX XG27AQDMG, which usually runs at 1440p and 240Hz, is now limited to 1440p at only 60Hz. I haven't changed any hardware or settings since building it, so I suspect it might be a software or driver issue. I already tried updating Windows to the latest version, and my AMD Software is on version 25.12.1. I'm using the same Display Port cable as before, so that shouldn't be a problem. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to try next?

Have you tried connecting your monitor to a different computer to see if it also shows 60Hz? Also, don’t forget to check if there are any new drivers or profiles for your monitor that you can download and install. Sometimes just swapping the cable or resetting the monitor settings can help.

I tried a different HDMI cable I had, and now it's running at 1440p 140Hz! But it's odd because the original cable worked perfectly fine for just a few months.

I don't get how the DP cable dropped from 240Hz to 60Hz suddenly either. That's super strange!

Make sure to double-check both the AMD app and the display settings under advanced display. Sometimes Windows will install a generic driver which can scramble your settings. It’s worth verifying that everything looks right.

I checked both the AMD app and the display settings. After switching to a random HDMI cable, I'm now back to 1440p 144Hz, but what's puzzling is how that previous cable could drop from 240Hz to 60Hz out of the blue.

Did you try the classic ‘turn it off and on again’ move? Sometimes that fixes these weird glitches.

Yeah, I did that, but it didn’t help.

Same here; that didn’t fix it for me, either.
