Why Is My Motherboard Temp So High Compared to the Rest of My PC?

I've been monitoring the temperatures of my PC using Fan Control V225, and I'm noticing a big discrepancy with the motherboard. While the CPU, GPU, and other components are running at normal temperatures (like 44°C for the CPU and around 29°C for the GPU), I see that Temp #3 on my ASUS PRIME B650M-A WIFI II motherboard is sitting at a concerning 84.5°C even when the PC is idle! The other temperatures for the motherboard are much lower, all around 30°C or less. I have my CPU cooled with a SAMA AIO push-pull fan setup, and all of this is happening under idle conditions with just a few background programs running. When gaming at ultra settings, my temps go up to 60-70°C across the board, but it's that high idle temp for Temp #3 that has me worried. I suspect it might be related to the VRMs since they can get really hot, but I'm also wondering if it could just be a faulty sensor. Any insights or advice would be appreciated!

It sounds like your Temp #3 might indeed be related to the VRMs, which can get quite hot if there's no active cooling. It’s not usually a cause for concern unless you're pushing overclocks. Some motherboards come with heat spreaders for VRMs to keep them cooler, but if everything else is fine, you could probably just ignore it!

Awesome, I'll take your confirmation of exactly what I wanted to hear and run with it / never think about it again haha. Cheers for the comment!
