I recently upgraded my graphics card from a Gigabyte 4090 Gaming OC to a 5090 FE, but I'm seeing a performance drop of about 20 to 50 FPS in some games. I can't figure out what might be causing this issue. I have a 1200 watt Platinum PSU and an Intel Core i9-14900K processor, and I've made sure all my drivers are up to date. I've been building PCs for only about two years, so I'm not sure if I've overlooked something important. Any suggestions on what to check?

Have you tried using DDU to completely wipe the old drivers before installing the new ones? That might help solve some performance issues.
Make sure you check the temperatures of both your CPU and GPU. If they're getting too hot, it might throttle performance.
Yeah, I've checked and everything is within a safe range.
Your CPU could be bottlenecking the GPU, especially if it’s overheating. Make sure your cooling setup is adequate, and check your BIOS settings to see if it's hitting power limits. Also, doing a clean install of Windows could fix hidden software issues.
Thanks for the insights! I plan to look into the DDU process soon for a clean start.
When switching to a new GPU, it's crucial to uninstall the old drivers completely. I had to do a full reinstall and multiple restarts to get my 5090 to perform well after upgrading from a 3080 Ti.
I've tried restarting and reinstalling drivers a few times without much luck. It's frustrating!
It could also be driver-related. Some users have had trouble with the latest NVIDIA drivers for the 50 series. Trying to install an earlier version might help.
Wow, maybe I should just return the 5090 and stick with my 4090 if this keeps up!
I'm not really familiar with DDU. Could you explain how to use it?
