Why Is My New Gaming PC Lagging So Much?

I recently built my first gaming PC, and I was excited to dive into Baldur's Gate 3. However, I'm really disappointed because it runs terribly. I'm experiencing significant lag and frame rate drops, and it looks quite bad even on my 1080p monitor. Additionally, YouTube videos are often loading in 240p, and when I try to change the quality, it takes forever to buffer. I'm not sure what to do about this. Here are my specs: I'm using an ASUS B650E Max Gaming WiFi motherboard, a Patriot P400 Lite 1TB SSD, a SAPPHIRE PULSE Radeon RX 9070 XT graphics card, an AMD Ryzen 7 7700X processor, CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB DDR5 RAM, and a Vetroo 850W power supply. I got the SSD for free, and while I've had the monitor for four years (used it with my PS5 without issues), I'm wondering if it could be part of the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Verify that your display settings in Windows match your monitor's capabilities—set it to 165Hz if it’s not already. Also, run a Windows update to catch all updates, and check that your graphics card is receiving adequate power from the PSU. If anything’s looking off, it could really affect your gaming performance!

It sounds like you might be missing some graphics drivers, which could cause your PC to run in a low-performance mode. Make sure to download the latest drivers for your graphics card. Also, check that your RAM is seated properly and that the GPU is installed in the correct PCIe slot—sometimes a loose connection can hinder performance significantly.

Definitely check that the GPU is seated correctly and make sure you're using multiple PCIe cables if needed. Using a daisy-chain could also limit performance.

Have you tried running some benchmarks? They can really help determine if your hardware is performing as expected. Also, check your internet speed; slow internet could affect streaming quality and overall performance—especially in online games! You might want to download something like HWINFO to keep an eye on temps too.

First off, make sure your monitor is plugged into the graphics card, not the motherboard. If you connect it to the motherboard, you'll be running off the integrated graphics, which won't give you the performance you want. Check your graphics settings and ensure BG3 is set to Vulkan mode—this can sometimes resolve lag issues too!

Make sure your cables are all connected correctly, especially for the power supply to the GPU. Some GPUs need multiple connections to function properly. If you’re still having issues, post some pictures of your setup. That could help others see if there’s an obvious issue with your setup!
