I recently purchased a 28TB hard drive from Seagate about two months ago, and it has started making very loud noises that remind me of an old typewriter. The sounds seem to be getting worse, and while it appears to be functioning fine, I can't check the SMART status since it's still in its enclosure. Has anyone else experienced this?

You should still be able to retrieve SMART data even with the drive in its enclosure. Try using a tool like CrystalDiskInfo to check its status.
Those hard drives are made for enterprise use, so it's normal for them to be loud. They're designed for environments like data centers where noise isn't a concern because they're often surrounded by other noisy equipment. If it's reading fine, the noise is just part of how they're built. Your drive is likely working as intended!
An external USB drive used like that? Not ideal for quiet home use!
Make sure to back up all your data right away. Continually back up until you feel confident it's stable. If it's under warranty, consider filing a claim as it may imply a problem, even if it's just with fan noise. It's possible your drive has started to fail already.
True, but that drive is meant for heavy-duty use, not casual home environments, so loudness is expected.
It's only two months old. I bought it new directly from Seagate, so I hope it’s not failing.

It didn't make those sounds when I was transferring data initially. Now it’s even noisy when it's idling, which makes me think something's off.
