Why is my new PC only recognizing 8GB of my 32GB RAM?

I just finished building a new PC and installed 32GB of RAM, but it's only showing 8GB in the system. I noticed that one of the RAM sticks has lights on it and is lit up, while the other one isn't. I made sure they're both seated correctly. Should I run the CD that came with my motherboard to troubleshoot this or is there something else I should check?

The other answers are helpful, but it seems strange that you only see 8GB when you have a dual 32GB kit. If one stick isn’t working, Windows could be displaying that incorrectly. You might need to check BIOS settings or Windows configurations. Definitely try accessing BIOS next time you boot up.

Double-check that both RAM sticks are snugly seated in their slots. Sometimes they might look good, but need a firmer push. And about that disc—it's surprising that some motherboards still include them! Is yours on the older side?

Since one stick isn't lighting up, it’s likely not functioning. To troubleshoot, you could test them one at a time in different slots to see if both sticks work. It’s also a good idea to ensure all slots on the motherboard are working properly.
