I recently assembled a new PC with 32GB of RAM, but it's only showing 8GB available. I've noticed that one of the RAM sticks has a light on it, while the other one doesn't seem to be working. I'm sure they are properly installed. Should I run the CD that came with the motherboard to troubleshoot the memory issue, or is there something else I should be checking?

While others are addressing the RAM issue, I've got to point out something strange. You've mentioned having a 32GB kit with two sticks of 16GB each, but only one is working and you're seeing just 8GB in your OS. That doesn't add up! It sounds like it could be a BIOS configuration issue or something wrong with Windows recognizing your memory. Checking the BIOS settings might be a good next step.
If one of the sticks isn't lighting up, it likely isn't working properly. Try testing each stick one at a time in each slot to see if both RAM sticks are functional. This way, you can figure out if it's a stick or a slot that's causing the problem.
First things first, double-check that both RAM sticks are seated correctly in the slots. Sometimes, they can look installed but aren't fully in. And by the way, do motherboards still come with discs? That's a blast from the past! Is yours an older model?
