Why is my NVMe overheating while playing certain games?

I've noticed an issue with my NVMe SSD overheating and causing my PC to shut down, but this only seems to happen when I play specific games like Path of Exile 1 & 2 and Elden Ring. I can play games like World of Warcraft and Valorant without any problems. I've already tried a bunch of things such as cleaning my PC, adjusting the airflow, and even moving my GPU down to free up some space for the NVMe. Unfortunately, it still overheats. I built my computer in 2020 and recently upgraded my GPU, but the overheating issue existed even with my previous graphics card. My specs are Windows 11, an Asus Z490-A Prime motherboard, an i7 10700K CPU with AIO cooling, a 9060XT GPU, and a 1TB WD Blue SN550 NVMe SSD. Is there a simple fix I might be overlooking or any BIOS settings I should check?

Don't forget to check if you removed the protective peel from the SSD's thermal pad. It’s a common mistake, but it can definitely contribute to overheating!

A quick fix could be to add a heatsink to your NVMe drive. If you can, get one with a fan for better cooling. The prices vary, but you can find decent options around $20. Just make sure there's enough space and a power connection for it. It can really make a difference!

Also, consider replacing the thermal strip on your SSD - they can dry out over time and lose effectiveness.
