Why is my PC fan suddenly louder after a motherboard replacement?

I built my PC last year, but recently my motherboard failed, so I had to take it to MicroCenter for a replacement. Before this happened, my PC was super quiet, and the fans barely made any noise. Now that I've got the new motherboard and plugged it back in at home, the front fans are significantly louder than they used to be. I'm curious if the motherboard dying could have caused this increase in fan noise or if there might be another reason for it. I'm not very tech-savvy beyond a few basics. I even tried cleaning and dusting it out, but that didn't help. Also, my GPU is currently at 28°C, and my CPU is at 36°C while idle—are these temperatures normal? I just want my fans to go back to being quiet like before, but I'm not sure what's going on.

It sounds like your fan curves might have reset when the new motherboard was installed. You should definitely check your BIOS settings to adjust the fan curves back to how they were before. There are also software options that allow you to manage fan speeds from Windows itself—just do a quick Google search and you'll find some good tools. Personally, I prefer using the BIOS because it's more direct. Good luck!

Thanks for the tip! I was actually about to do that, but now I can't access the BIOS at all—getting just a black screen. Any idea what might cause that?
