Why is my PC getting slow download speeds through the router?

I'm experiencing a weird issue with my internet speed. When I test the download speeds on my PC using the router, they are really slow, only around 1 Mbps. However, when I connect directly to the modem, I get fantastic speeds of over 300 Mbps. Interestingly, my phone also shows similar fast speeds when not using WiFi. Could the Ethernet ports on the router be the reason my speeds are so limited? Any advice on troubleshooting this would be appreciated!

It sounds like you might be using a faulty Ethernet cable or port since typical Ethernet setups should be much faster than what you're seeing. Most Ethernet ports are gigabit and should handle speeds up to 1000 Mbps. Try using a different cable or plugging into another port on your router to see if there’s any change in speed. If you’re using Wi-Fi, the issue could be with your PC's WiFi adapter. A USB WiFi adapter might be a simple fix to boost your connection.

Make sure you're plugging into the main Ethernet port on your router—the first socket. That can sometimes make a difference in speed. Also, check that your network settings on the PC are configured properly.

If you're on Windows 11, I’ve heard other users mention slow download speeds on that OS too. Make sure all your drivers are updated, especially for network devices. That might help improve your situation.
