Why is my PC not performing as expected in games?

I'm really struggling with my PC's performance, especially while gaming. Despite having an Intel Core i5-10400F CPU and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060, my FPS in games like VALORANT is lower than I expected, averaging around 150-160 FPS. I've tried a lot of troubleshooting steps including updating my GPU drivers, performing a BIOS update, reinstalling Windows, tweaking both in-game settings and NVIDIA Control Panel settings, checking temperatures and usage, and ensuring power settings are set to High Performance. Nothing seems to help, and I'm feeling stuck. My full specs are: CPU: Intel i5-10400F, GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3060 6GB, RAM: 16GB DDR4 3200MHz, Motherboard: Gigabyte H510M H V2, PSU: Aero Cool 700W, and I'm using Windows 11 Pro. Are there any insights or suggestions on what might be causing this performance issue?

Given your specs, I'd say 150-160 FPS is actually pretty decent for VALORANT. Your CPU, while not the latest, is doing alright for that game, but it might be bottlenecking your performance compared to newer CPUs that some benchmarks use. You could consider upgrading to something like the Intel Core i5-13600K for better performance if your budget allows.

Yeah, but that would also mean you'd need a new motherboard and possibly RAM; keep that in mind!

It sounds like you're hitting a CPU bottleneck here. The i5-10400F is a budget chip at this point. Upgrading to something like a Ryzen 5 7700X would make a difference, but it means a new motherboard too. If you're on a tighter budget, maybe look for the Ryzen 5 5700X as a great value upgrade. And yes, try to run games from an SSD if you aren’t already!

Honestly, don't compare with other users too much. Their systems might have better CPUs or setups that give them higher FPS. Your GPU is okay for VALORANT, just a bit dated. If you're open to upgrades, look for a more recent CPU, like the Ryzen 5 7600 or Intel’s newer 12th-gen options. Make sure your game runs on an SSD too!

VALORANT is quite CPU-intensive, so a better CPU could definitely help you pull more FPS. The RTX 3060 is fine for that game. If you can swing it, upgrading to a CPU like the Ryzen 7 7800X3D would really optimize your performance. Just keep your hardware in mind; if you go too far, you might need a whole system overhaul!
