Why is my PC overheating so quickly when I start a game?

I've noticed that whenever I launch any game, my GPU temperature skyrockets to around 100 degrees within just 5 seconds. I've tried updating the drivers, reapplying thermal paste, cleaning out the dust, and adjusting the fan speeds, but nothing seems to help. Is there anything else I can do before I consider heading to the hardware store? Thanks for your help!

What resolution are you playing at? Make sure your game settings aren’t mistakenly set to 4K; that could put unnecessary strain on your GPU.

I've checked, and unfortunately, it happens on other games too.

When you reapplied the thermal paste, did you also use new thermal pads? That could be an issue if they’re worn out. Just an idea!

I replaced both the paste and the pads just recently.

Try removing the front panel of your PC case. If that helps with overheating, you might have an airflow issue inside the case.

I’m checking that out right now. Also, my room temperature is about 24 degrees with AC on.

Even with no airflow, a GPU shouldn’t hit 100 degrees that quickly—there must be a contact issue.

If your GPU hits 100°C in 5 seconds, there could be a problem with heat transfer from the CPU to the cooler. It might be due to poor paste application or even a bent motherboard causing bad contact.

I’ll definitely check that out first thing in the morning, thanks for the tip!

What fps are you getting when you play? Sometimes if your GPU is pumping out way too many frames, it can overheat quickly. Just curious!

My fps is pretty standard at 60fps on Palword at low settings, using a 5600 XT.
