Why is my PC’s Wi-Fi Disconnecting and Throttling?

Hey everyone, I'm having some trouble with my PC's Wi-Fi. I've been using this computer for about four years now, and last week I encountered a black screen with a 'device ran into a problem' error. After checking the event log, it seems like it was due to a driver conflict right when my Wi-Fi disconnected. Since then, I've been experiencing frequent Wi-Fi dropouts and slow speeds. It's strange because all my other devices are working fine on the same network, and my router is pretty powerful. I've already tried reinstalling the Wi-Fi drivers, rebooting the router, and adjusting the antennas, but nothing seems to work consistently. Just when I thought it was fixed for a whole day, it started acting up again after I turned my PC off for a bit. I'm worried that my Wi-Fi card on the motherboard might be failing, which would be a hassle since I can't afford repairs at the moment. Has anyone else gone through something similar?

I doubt that your motherboard is failing. It might just be your Wi-Fi card acting up. However, using the 2.4GHz band isn't as bad as it sounds; you could even consider getting a cheap USB wireless adapter as a backup.

True, but my 2.4GHz is only 50mbps compared to the 400mbps I get on 5GHz! That’s a big gap for performance!

Have you checked your motherboard manufacturer's site for a BIOS update? It can really help. I've dealt with some odd issues after Windows updates, like audio problems that were fixed by just updating the BIOS. It's super common to have bugs after major updates, so that might be worth looking into.

I actually took an antenna out and it solved my issues! I know it's strange, but it worked. It stopped the dropouts immediately. It all seemed to start after a recent security patch update, just like you mentioned!

I switched to the 2.4GHz band and it worked fine for me. The 5GHz band was causing problems, so maybe your antennae are malfunctioning? That's just a guess, though!
