Why Is My RAM Not Being Fully Recognized?

I've got two Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 16GB sticks, but both my system settings and Task Manager only show a total of 16GB of RAM. The Task Manager indicates that 2 out of 4 slots are in use. The RGB on both RAM sticks is working fine, which makes me think they're functioning. My motherboard is an MPG Z490 Gaming Plus. Does anyone have any suggestions on what might be going wrong?

You should enter your BIOS and see if both RAM sticks are detected and showing the right capacity. Running memtest86 can help check if both sticks are functioning without issues. Let me know how it goes!

First, try swapping the RAM sticks between the slots. Sometimes the slots can be finicky. Also, double-check your Windows settings because it can sometimes limit the amount of RAM that's usable. Good luck!

Are you totally sure you have 2x16GB sticks? Sometimes the labeling can be misleading, and you might actually have a kit of 2x8GB instead. Check your BIOS to see what’s showing in each slot or use HWINFO to verify. If it shows only 8GB, try swapping the sticks around to check for a faulty one. Also, remember to place your sticks in the correct slots, which is usually A2 and B2. Check your motherboard manual if you’re unsure!

Wow, you were right! I looked online and it seems it was advertised incorrectly – turns out it was a kit of 2x8GB. HWINFO confirmed it for me.
