Why is My Windows 11 Using So Much RAM and Causing Crashes?

I'm having a serious issue with my Legion 7 laptop running Windows 11 64-bit. It seems like my RAM is being used up excessively, primarily when I'm using applications like Opera GX and Discord. The Task Manager shows that both of these apps are consuming a lot of memory. I'm experiencing frequent crashes with the tabs in Opera, and Discord crashes often too. At times, it escalates, causing my entire system to crash with a message saying, 'Your PC ran into a problem and has to restart.' Even apps like Spotify and Netflix aren't working smoothly and crash frequently. Lenovo Vantage indicates that my RAM usage is around 76% to 85%, and despite clearing it, it just climbs back up. This issue has been persistent for a while, so I'm looking for solutions. Any ideas?

If Windows 11 is eating up RAM quickly, it might be worth considering the applications you’re running. They could be using more resources than you realize. If RAM usage seems typical for your tasks, your issue could be something else entirely. Try running a RAM test to see if any issues show up there. Sometimes, it's just a matter of bad memory.

You mentioned that the crashing happens across several apps, which points more towards a memory leak or corrupted system files rather than just normal app usage. Try checking the 'Details' tab in Task Manager to see if a specific process is using increasingly more RAM. Running commands like `sfc /scannow` and `DISM /restorehealth` might help repair your Windows installation. Additionally, updating your drivers can often resolve these kinds of issues.

How much RAM does your laptop have? If it’s on the lower side, that can lead to significant performance issues. Windows 11 tends to require a bit more memory than earlier versions, so upgrading might be a good solution.

It's normal for Windows to use a lot of RAM, but if multiple apps are crashing, it could indicate a bigger issue, possibly faulty hardware. You might want to run some diagnostics to check for bad memory sticks or any hardware faults. Reinstalling Windows could help, but your laptop may have underlying hardware problems that need attention.
