I've been experiencing significant slowdown with my Xbox One lately. Almost every time I turn it on, it takes forever to get past the boot-up screen to select my profile. Once it finally loads, the performance plummets regardless of whether I'm playing online or offline. I've had this console for years and getting a new one isn't an option right now. I'm also hesitant to do a hard reset because I want to keep all my achievements and game progress. What options do I have? This has been going on for months, and I really need help!

You're right, slow boot times can be a sign of hard drive failure, which is the first part of the console to give out. Upgrading to a new hard drive might do the trick. Remember, the Xbox One is getting a bit older, so parts can start to wear down. If you're not tech-savvy, using an external hard drive could be a good short-term fix while you save up for a next-gen console!
It sounds like your hard drive might be the culprit here. If you've had your Xbox for several years, the hard drive can start to fail, causing the slow boot and game lag you’re experiencing. If you hard reset your console, your achievements could be safe, as long as you remember your account details. But a hard reset might not necessarily fix the underlying problem.
I've had my Xbox since 2018 too and had similar issues. Back then, I got an external hard drive, and it helped a ton!
That sounds promising! I guess it's worth a shot to use an external hard drive, especially since it’s a temporary solution. Thanks for the tip!
