Why is the Browse Button Not Working on My New Computer?

I recently set up a new computer for the CEO of one of my clients, and I encountered a frustrating issue. While backing up his old PC, I noticed that in one of the programs I use to gather data, the Browse button wouldn't open the file explorer when clicked. I didn't think much of it since I was replacing the computer anyway. After swapping out the old system and importing all his files into the new one, I tried to run the installer for their main software, which requires changing default paths manually. To my dismay, the Browse button still didn't work! I also tested the same program from the old computer, and again, clicking the Browse button resulted in nothing happening. However, when I switched to the domain admin account, the Browse button worked fine! Now that I'm back on his profile, it's still a no-go. Has anyone experienced something like this or have any suggestions to fix it?

There has been a known .NET bug that required a registry tweak to fix the file dialog issues. This bug was supposed to be patched a while back, but some systems might still be affected.

That's interesting! Whenever I click the Browse button, it literally does nothing at all across multiple programs.

Sounds like you might need to rebuild the profile. This sort of issue often happens with corrupted user settings.

Yeah, I figured that might be the issue. Just trying to understand what could cause it to act up like this.

It sounds like the Browse button is supposed to open a file dialog, but in your case, it doesn’t. You might want to look into Edge settings if this issue is happening in a web-based context. There are policies you can adjust to allow file selection dialogs, which can sometimes interfere.

I see! Just to clarify, I'm referring to the Browse button in different applications, not in a browser. When I click it, it just doesn't respond at all.
