I noticed UltraVNC appeared on my laptop without my knowledge. When I was about to shut down, I saw it listed among recently added applications, and it was installed on August 3rd, which is surprising since I haven't downloaded anything out of the ordinary. I ran a Windows security check, and no threats were detected. I have a few concerns: Was I potentially being recorded? How did it get on my laptop? What should I do to ensure no one has access to my laptop now, and how can I protect myself in the future? I typically avoid sketchy downloads and only install games from Steam.

I'd suggest taking this very seriously. If you didn't install it, it's time for an urgent cleanup. Reinstalling your OS is what many recommend, but it won't help unless you wipe your disk completely. Just uninstalling might leave behind things that could come back to haunt you. Stay safe and do some research on VNC software to understand what you've got on your hands.
