Why is Windows Using So Much RAM When I’m Not Doing Anything?

I've noticed that my Windows system is idling with around 13GB of RAM usage even when I have no applications open, which seems excessive. I checked the processes, but nothing is showing that it should be using that much memory. I even ran RamMap, as others suggested, and found that 'process private' is using nearly 6GB. Can someone explain what's going on here?

That's actually pretty normal behavior for Windows. The OS is designed to use RAM for caching data to improve performance. If it isn't using RAM effectively, that can indicate a problem.

I didn't realize it could build up over time since I hadn't restarted Windows in a while. After a reboot, my RAM usage dropped to about 4GB.
