Why Isn’t My RTX 3080 Performance Living Up to Expectations?

I've got a pretty solid build that includes an Nvidia RTX 3080, an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 CPU, an ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F Gaming motherboard, 32GB of DDR4 RAM, and a Samsung 970 EVO 250GB M.2 SSD. I also use an Acer Predator monitor at 2560x1440 resolution, but I've always felt my performance wasn't as great as it could be. Recently, I tried running a demanding Minecraft modpack and it just can't keep up, especially compared to what I see on YouTube. What could be holding my build back, considering others seem to manage just fine with lesser GPUs?

Absolutely, the CPU is a common weak point in builds like yours. If you can upgrade to a newer AMD CPU, it would help a ton. Also, ensure you have XMP enabled for your RAM to maximize its speed—it's often overlooked!

Good call! Google can help with enabling XMP if you're not sure how to do it on your motherboard.

It sounds like your CPU might be bottlenecking your performance. The Ryzen 5 3600 is decent, but for gaming, especially with modded Minecraft, you might want to consider upgrading to something like the Ryzen 7 5700X3D. Just remember to update your motherboard BIOS before you swap out the CPU!
