Why won’t Clonezilla recognize my new SSD during cloning?

I'm trying to clone my old 256GB M.2 NVMe SSD to a new 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD on my Dell Latitude 5590 using Clonezilla. I've got my old SSD connected via an SSD to USB adapter, but when I run Clonezilla, it only detects my old SSD and my bootable USB drive. It doesn't show the new SSD that's installed on the motherboard. Has anyone experienced this before and knows how to fix this issue?

Are you certain that your new NVMe drive is really an NVMe type and not a SATA drive? Sometimes that can be a simple mix-up.

One option is to create a backup of your original drive and store it on a USB stick first. Then, after installing the new SSD, you can restore the clone from the USB stick image. Just make sure you have enough space on the USB stick to hold the clone image.
