Why Won’t My Blank CD Fit in My External Drive?

I recently bought an external drive designed for burning CDs (ORIGBELIE DVD-R/RW) and some 700 MB blank CD-Rs. However, I'm having a problem: the center hole of the CD seems too small to fit onto the drive's spindle. Did I end up with the wrong type of CD or drive? I was hoping to create a CD playlist for my boyfriend, who loves physical CDs over streaming music.

Most drives these days have a 17mm center spindle. If your external drive is meant for burning, it should match this. It's pretty common for folks to worry about forcing it and breaking it, but if it's made for CDs, you'll usually just have to press it down a bit firmly.

Make sure you're not trying to use the wrong type of disc. Some drives have a spindle that snaps the CD into place rather than letting it drop in. Sometimes, it just needs to be snapped in instead of pushed in.

Yeah, I figured that out—I just had to snap it in!

Just a tip, make sure to check the Amazon listing to see if it mentions the spindle size. Once you get the CD seated right, you should be set to go!

It sounds like the CD might just need a bit more persuasion to fit! Have you tried pressing it down more firmly? CDs usually have a standard hole size, so it shouldn’t be an issue. Maybe a picture of the CD and drive would help figure it out?

Yeah, I just had to press it in a bit harder!
