I recently purchased the HP OMEN 35L Gaming PC after finding a good deal online. Unfortunately, after receiving a non-functional unit that didn't display anything, I got a replacement. The new one works, but it's not recognizing my 2TB SATA SSD – it shows up as an Unknown Device and I can't access any of the storage.
I've confirmed that the SSD operates properly; I tested it on two other computers without any issues. I've also tried different SATA ports, replaced cables, and updated the BIOS, but nothing has resolved the problem. HP's tech support said it should work but seems unhelpful since the SSD wasn't originally part of the setup. Has anyone experienced similar issues with HP products, or successfully expanded storage on their PCs? Any advice before I reach out to HP again?

Make sure it’s plugged in securely and check how it’s formatted. By the way, is it showing up in the BIOS? If it’s not, that’s likely an underlying issue. Also, keep in mind that Windows versions can affect recognition sometimes.
Definitely check your manual! Sometimes, in desktops, SATA ports can get disabled if an M.2 drive is being used. It’s odd that a prebuilt would come that way, but it’s worth checking out.
What specific SATA drive are you using? If it’s not showing up in the BIOS settings, that’s a huge red flag. You might want to consider using an external USB-C enclosure for the SSD, even if it’s not as fast, it could still be a useful storage option.
