Why won’t my nephew’s gaming headset work for both mic and audio after a motherboard upgrade?

I recently upgraded my motherboard, and now my nephew's Corsair HS35 gaming headset is having issues. It used to work perfectly, but now it only functions as either a microphone or a speaker, not both at the same time. I've updated all the necessary drivers and tried various ports, but when I plug the headset in, I get separate options for Mic in, Line in, and Speaker. My nephew is autistic and is uncomfortable switching to a different headset since he really likes these for comfort. Can anyone offer some assistance?

Are you plugging the headset into the front or back ports of the case? That can sometimes cause issues. Also, if you're not using a splitter, you'll want to check if the headset has a 4-segment jack because that can make a difference too. I’ve seen it work correctly in some setups, so it might just be a connection issue.

I tried both front and rear inputs without using a splitter, but it's still acting weird. It’s a 4-segment Jack just like it was before, and everything worked fine then.

You might need an adapter to separate the mic and sound channels. Sometimes these come with gaming headsets, but you can easily find one online that works for splitting those connections. Check out this link I found—it shows an adapter you could use!
