Will connecting my gaming PC via Ethernet slow down the Wi-Fi for others?

I'm planning to relocate my router to my room so I can connect my gaming PC directly with an Ethernet cable. However, I'm worried that this might slow down the internet speed for other devices in the house. Does anyone know how much it could affect their connection?

Just a heads up, make sure you really can move the router. It needs to stay connected to the internet source, but if it’s just a 40-foot move, it should be fine. Just consider the layout of your house. If your room is at the edge and it’s moving away from where most users are, it might hurt their connection a bit.

Connecting your PC via Ethernet can actually help the Wi-Fi speed for other devices since your PC won't be using Wi-Fi anymore. If you have a 100Mbps connection and you were downloading something, Wi-Fi devices might share that speed and get slowed down to about 50Mbps. With Ethernet, your PC can utilize the full speed without hindering other connections. But remember, if your new setup puts distance between the router and other devices, it might affect their Wi-Fi speeds, so it’s a good idea to keep them somewhat close if possible.

That makes sense! But what about when I'm gaming? Will it still impact others if I'm using all that speed for my games?

Exactly! As long as your PC is wired, you should be fine, but make sure to check the overall network load if others are streaming or downloading at the same time.

It really depends on your router. Some routers have better management features than others. If yours is unmanaged, whoever starts downloading first might hog the bandwidth. Some allow you to set limits per user or port. So check your router settings to see what you can do!
