I recently built my first PC and while handling my 9800x3D CPU, I accidentally dropped it from about 1-2 inches onto my table. It didn't hit the IHS side, but instead landed on the contact points. I checked for any visible damage and didn't notice anything unusual. Since this is my first builder experience, I'm a bit nervous about the potential consequences. Thankfully, the AM5 chips don't have pins, so I'm not worrying about bent pins. How likely is it that my CPU is still fine?

You’re probably in the clear! Unless you had a really unlucky drop, a small fall like that typically doesn’t cause damage. I dropped my 7800X3D from about five feet onto a hard floor and it still runs perfectly after a year, even with a little corner damage. If you can’t see anything wrong, go ahead and give it a shot!

That’s reassuring! I really can’t afford to replace it, so I’ll hope for the best. PC building is way pricier than I expected!
