I've been contemplating building a new computer, but I've noticed that prices for RAM and storage have skyrocketed recently due to the rise of AI. Some folks are saying that RAM prices might stabilize in a few years, maybe around 2028, but I'm not sure if that's just speculation. Do you think it's wise to buy now before prices potentially rise more, or should I hold off and hope for a drop? What are people's thoughts on whether these high prices are just a phase or the new norm?

Building a PC can feel like playing a game of chance with prices. If it's not RAM that's expensive, it could be graphics cards, motherboards, or any part. Design your PC according to your budget and pull the trigger when you're ready!
For sure, there are definitely better times to build, and right now isn’t it.
If you're able to afford it, considering buying now might be smart. Prices might spike even higher if geopolitical issues come into play. Plus, waiting too long could mean missing out on building a decent machine now!
Exactly, we really have no idea how long these high prices could last, so enjoying your build sooner rather than later might be nice!
Totally agree. It’s a gamble, but I'd rather get my rig sorted out now than wait and possibly regret it.
It seems like we're in a new normal for RAM prices. Even if there's a slight drop soon, I don't believe we'll see the old pricing again anytime soon, especially since demand remains high with AI growth.
I’ve heard they might dip slightly in the coming years but will stay above the historical lows.
Honestly, nobody knows for sure, but historically, tech prices fluctuate. RAM pricing is tied to supply and demand, so it's likely prices will come down eventually, just not back to pre-spike levels. We might be seeing these prices for a long time.
Yeah, I think people thought the GPU price hikes during COVID were temporary too.
That’s true. Prices could plateau or even go up with current trends and demands.
Prices are likely to decrease in the next 12 to 18 months. The AI bubble might burst soon because not all these companies will have the cash to buy the components they’ve locked in contracts for. If that happens, RAM and other component prices could see a significant drop!
Even if they can pay, is there even enough demand for all the data centers they want to build?
I bet the government will just bail them out if things go south.

Honestly, the best time to build was probably in 2019.
