Windows 10 Installer Can’t Detect My HDD – Need Help!

Hey everyone! I'm having a tough time trying to clean install Windows 10 on my Asus X554SJ laptop. The issue is that the HDD doesn't show up during the installation process. I suspect I might have deleted something important, like the AHCI driver, when I removed old partitions. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the specific driver on the Asus website, just an update for it. I came across three drivers that the installer says are compatible, but even after I've installed those, the HDD still doesn't appear. Strangely, a partition of 931GB shows up in the installer, but I know that's not accurate. I'm starting to wonder if my HDD is fried, even though Windows was working fine before I started this clean install. I've checked the BIOS settings and everything seems correct, but the HDD isn't recognized there either. Any advice or drivers you could share would be greatly appreciated!

You might want to try the IRST driver from a similar model, like the X554LA. You can find it on the Asus support page [here](https://www.asus.com/supportonly/x554la/helpdesk_download/). It uses a similar CPU and chipset, so it could help resolve your issue.

Thanks for the tip! I’ll definitely give that a shot tomorrow.

Have you tried putting the drive in another computer and checking it with Partition Manager? Also, running a live USB with a Linux distro could help you see if the HDD is recognized there. Sometimes, this can give you a clearer picture of what's going on with the drive.

If it uses the same SATA port as a PC HDD, it should work fine. I've never opened a laptop myself, but I’ve built plenty of PCs, so I get that part.
