Windows Downloads Incorrect Drivers and Causes Issues with My New PC

I recently built a new PC and have been enjoying it, but I'm facing a frustrating problem. After a fresh install, once I connect to the internet via Ethernet, my screen goes dark after showing an image for a brief moment, and the GPU fans shut off. Everything works fine without the internet, but as soon as I plug in the Ethernet, it starts freezing at the Windows loading screen. I've noticed that it seems like Windows automatically installs a driver that causes these issues. I've tried disabling driver installations in several ways, but it still happens. I can reinstall Windows offline without any issues, but the automatic driver update seems to be causing problems. Here are my specs:

- GPU: RTX 5060
- CPU: Ryzen 5 7500f
- PSU: XPG Pylon 650w
- SSD: Kingston nv3 1tb
- Motherboard: ASUS PRIME B650M-A II-CSM
- RAM: 2x16 Kingston DDR5 KVR56U46BS8-16

If anyone has insights on how to stop bad drivers from being installed or if there's something I might be missing, I'd appreciate any guidance!

There's actually a way to turn off automatic hardware updates in Windows. Go to Settings, then System, and find the advanced system settings. Check the Device Installation Settings there. You can also use Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to manage this effectively. Just remember, this could be a symptom of other issues as well, so be sure to troubleshoot accordingly!

Make sure your BIOS is up-to-date. A recent update was released that enhances system performance and device compatibility, which could solve your problem if you're running into these issues. After updating the BIOS, reset your settings, and that might sort out the driver conflicts.

Didn't see that. Thanks for the great info 😀

You might want to try WinaeroTweaker to disable Windows driver updates completely. Just keep in mind that it disables all drivers from updating, which is different from what you can do in gpedit. It's worth a shot!
