I just built a new PC, and I'm concerned about the temperatures I'm seeing. Here are my specs:
- CPU: Ryzen 7500F
- GPU: Radeon RX 6800 XFX Merc (bought it used)
- RAM: Lexar Ares 6000MHz CL34 (running single channel for now)
- Cooler: Thermalright Assassin King 120 SE
- Case: Cooler Master Masterbox 600 (comes with 3x 140mm fans in the front and one 120mm exhaust; haven't added any extras yet but I'm planning to)
- Motherboard: Asus Prime B650M-R
- PSU: Cooler Master G600 Gold
I ran FurMark and PassMark, and my GPU reached 60°C with a hotspot temp of 98°C during the tests. Immediately after that, the hotspot shot up to 105°C according to HWMonitor. The CPU also peaked at 79°C during PassMark, which I know is acceptable, but shouldn't it be better with the setup I have? I tried running the tests again with the glass side panel removed, but the GPU temps didn't improve at all, even though my score increased a bit. Any advice on this?

Your CPU temps actually sound pretty good — 79°C is fairly standard for AM5 processors. But, the GPU temps are concerning. Since it’s a used card, it’s possible the thermal paste is old and dried out. Re-pasting it with quality thermal paste could help bring those temps down, but I get that it might seem tricky to open up the GPU without experience.
I really don’t want to risk damaging anything. Could those temps actually harm the GPU? I’d be fine with throttling it if it means I can avoid a breakdown.
