What’s the Best Linux Distro for My Old Asus Laptop?

Hey everyone! I'm looking to switch to Linux because Windows 8 has been a nightmare for my Asus X200CA laptop. Since I'm new to Linux, I could really use some guidance. Here are my laptop specs: it has an Intel Celeron 1007U CPU (with an integrated GPU), 4 GB of RAM, a 500 GB HDD, and it's 64-bit.

I don't require anything extravagant – I just want to browse the web without lagging on multiple tabs and play some games like Minecraft (switching to Java to play with friends), Half Life, Halo CE, and some PS2 or older games, plus run Discord and a couple of applications. Any suggestions on which distro might be the best fit? Thanks in advance for any advice!

You might want to start with something lightweight like Antix Linux, which runs well on low specs. My old laptop manages fine with it! If you want a bit more polish, you could also try Ubuntu MATE or Xubuntu. Just grab a USB and test a few distros live to see which one feels right for you before committing. You've got enough RAM to switch it up if needed!

Definitely check out the distro selection page! It’s super helpful in narrowing down your options. Just remember to backup your files regularly and feel free to experiment with different distros using a live USB before you settle on one.

Aside from Antix, consider looking at Linux Mint with XFCE or MATE desktop; those are pretty user-friendly and should work on your setup. Lubuntu and Xubuntu are also solid picks from the Ubuntu family. If you decide to go with Ubuntu, stick to the LTS versions for better reliability.
