How Can I Transition from Storage Admin to Azure?

Hey everyone! I'm currently stuck in a Storage Admin role and, to be honest, it's pretty dull as the infrastructure is outdated and there's no room for growth or learning. I've been working in this position for about 20 months now. Although I've passed the AZ-104 and AZ-305 exams, I only have those certifications on paper; I haven't gained any real hands-on experience with Azure yet.

I've tried reaching out to folks on LinkedIn for advice or suggestions on labs to work with, but I haven't gotten any replies. I'm really looking for guidance on how to gain practical experience, useful labs to explore, or tips to help me pivot into a genuine Azure role. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Microsoft Learn is definitely worth a shot! Also, since you’ve got experience documenting processes, you can apply that knowledge while learning Azure. It might give you a better edge when applying for roles.

Sure, I’ll look into that.

It may not sound thrilling, but have you thought about reviewing local businesses' usage of Azure? You could show them how to achieve similar performance but at a lower cost. Mastering how to optimize Azure minimizes waste and could position you well for future opportunities!

Just curious, since you're saying the current infrastructure is outdated, do you see areas for improvement using Azure? You could turn that into a project at your current job or use it to demonstrate your skills to potential employers!

I would if anyone cared. Unfortunately, it’s tough with a toxic manager who ignores suggestions. I'm tired of this and just want out.

Have you checked out Microsoft Learn's labs? They’re a great free resource for getting some hands-on practice with Azure and should help bridge that experience gap!

Yes, I’ve heard of them but haven't started using them yet.
