About a year ago, I stumbled upon this really handy network discovery tool that could identify all IPs on the network, including their categories, ports, and services. It was great because it didn't require me to be on the same subnet; it could see anything happening on the network. The tool was portable and super user-friendly, almost like a mix of an IP scanner and nmap—just select the local device to start scanning. Unfortunately, I lost track of its name and it's not one of the popular ones. Has anyone used a tool like this? It would be great to share!

Have you tried Angry IP Scanner? It’s a popular choice and pretty straightforward to use. Advanced IP Scanner is also good. Lansweeper could fit what you described too, depending on your needs!
There’s also Zenmap, which is a graphical front-end for nmap, but not sure if it meets all your criteria.
I’ve heard good things about Fing as well. It’s quite handy for network discovery and might be worth checking out!
What about SoftPerfect Network Scanner? I've used that one before and it’s pretty effective for discovering devices on the network.
Wireshark is another solution, though it's more complex and maybe not exactly what you're looking for if you want something simple.
