I recently called a number that my friend gave me, thinking it was our other friend. Now I'm curious if calling someone can actually lead to getting hacked or compromised in any way. Anyone know if there's a real risk in that scenario?

Nah, you won't get hacked just from the call itself. But keep in mind that depending on the area code, you might see some random charges on your phone bill. There's this thing called the 'one ring scam' with certain area codes, so it’s good to check those out.
Seriously, why would you worry about that? I get it though—our education system kinda leaves us in the dark about these things!
No way! There's really no chance of getting hacked just by making a phone call. It’s kind of a strange thought, but unless you’re sharing sensitive info over the call, you should be fine.
