Do I need a license for Dell iDRAC’s virtual console on a PowerEdge R620?

Hey everyone! I have a question about the Dell PowerEdge R620's iDRAC. I'm assuming that without an enterprise license, I can't use the virtual console feature, right? We usually work with SuperMicro servers which don't have this kind of limitation. I just want to make sure there aren't any workarounds for using the virtual console without paying for a license. Thanks in advance!

Yep, you need an enterprise iDRAC7 license to access the virtual console on the PowerEdge R620. Without that, you're out of luck. If you're looking for a cheaper alternative, you might find some licenses on sites like eBay.

Totally agree. It's worth noting that you can't buy iDRAC7 licenses directly from Dell anymore.

That's right! The enterprise license is a must for the virtual console. However, you might want to consider using a hardware KVM as an alternative, which can give you some similar capabilities.

Quick question—does the virtual console let you connect during POST and for short intervals in the OS, like HP iLO does? I had that experience with ILO, and had to keep reconnecting.
