I recently updated to Fedora 42, and I noticed that it doesn't come with X11 anymore. Because of this change, I can't find i3 in GDM. Is that why I can't use i3wm anymore?

Exactly! You're not locked into any company's ecosystem here, so you're free to install whatever you need.

I’d suggest switching to Sway! It's a modern tiling window manager that runs on Wayland. Honestly, X11 is pretty much on its way out, so it might be worth jumping ship.

Good point! Plus, Sway has a similar configuration to i3, so the transition should be smooth.

Yup, you can definitely install X11 if you prefer. Just search for the necessary packages, and you should be fine!

X11 will be available in the repos for a while because of spins like Cinnamon and XFCE. Just keep in mind that eventually, most of these will switch to Wayland, so you might want to start thinking about alternatives.

Yeah, Fedora 42 has dropped X11 by default, but you can still install it if you want. Just check the package manager and you should be good to go!
