How Anonymous is Usenet Really?

I'm considering diving into Usenet, but I'm curious about its anonymity. Can anyone tell me if my searches and downloads are logged? Additionally, do indexers keep track of what users are doing? Just trying to assess if it's a safe option to explore.

To connect, you’ll need an account with a Usenet server. Your client will talk to that server to send and receive messages, which means the server can see what you're accessing. Plus, the etiquette there often encourages using your real name when posting.

Wow, I can't believe Usenet is still around! I used to be really into it back in the day, but that was ages ago. Seems like it’s mostly about piracy now, which makes finding rare content easier.

That’s true! It's kind of a hidden gem for hard-to-find stuff.

Well, it really depends on what you're using it for. I've seen a lot of groups fade away, but if you're just looking to get stuff, it can still be useful. Just keep in mind that it’s not as bustling as it used to be.

Mainly just looking to download things.

They advertise that it's anonymous, and that you can upload and download things privately. Just make sure you choose a reputable provider and you should be okay.

Any recommendations for reliable providers?
