I'm currently stuck with a GTX 1080, and it's starting to show its age, especially when I try to play the latest games at anything but low settings. I'm on the lookout for a worthwhile upgrade, ideally something that offers more than 8GB of VRAM. My budget is around $400. So far, I've considered a couple of options like the RTX 3060 with 12GB for about $300 and the RX 7600 XT for around $340. I'm fine playing at high or ultra settings, but extreme quality isn't necessary. I primarily game at 1080p but wouldn't mind a card that can handle 1440p down the line. Any recommendations?

The 5060 Ti with 16GB seems like a solid budget-friendly option if you're buying new. I spotted it for $406 at my local Best Buy, so it might be worth checking that out. I think it would handle 1080p and maybe even some 1440p games well.
I would recommend looking for a 6800 XT or a 3080 in the used market. They outperform all the cards you've mentioned and can usually be found for a good price now. I swapped my 3060 for a mint 6800 XT for about $390, and it was the best decision!
If you're looking for something really budget-friendly, I saw a used 6700 XT for just $250. You could also look at the 9060 16GB, which is new and priced reasonably. Can save you money for other upgrades later!

Honestly, I’d steer clear of the 3060. Even at 1080p, my experience was rough, especially with newer games. Both the 5060 and 5060 Ti have 16GB versions which might also be worth considering. They're available but just be cautious with performance.
