I'm trying to format the D drive on my SSD, which is currently partitioned into C (for the OS) and D (for storage). I've backed up everything important from D, but when I go to format it in Disk Management, the option is greyed out. Even when I attempt to format it through Windows Explorer, I get an error saying I need to close any programs using the drive. My ultimate goal is to merge the D partition back into C as I'm planning to install a new SSD. Is there a way to format D without affecting my OS on C?

Have you tried using the DISKPART tool? It’s a powerful command-line utility that can help with formatting partitions in Windows. Just make sure to follow a guide carefully, as it can also affect your entire SSD if not done properly.

Thanks for the tip! But I'm worried that using DISKPART could end up formatting the whole SSD, including my OS on C. Is there a way to use it safely to only format the D drive?
