I'm on the hunt for a solid email archiving and filing solution that can support API integration. My client is in the construction industry, where emails need to be organized by project due to the lengthy retention periods tied to legal claims. They need a way for users to easily file or send emails into specific project folders, which can accumulate thousands of emails over the years. We initially considered MailManager, but the lack of API support complicates integration with our in-house development efforts. Does anyone have recommendations for other platforms or insights on how to approach this?

While I get the need for email organization, I think your client might be overlooking better systems designed for project management. There are specialized tools that integrate with email but also offer much more, like file handling and indexing. If they really want just email solutions, you could even set up multiple local email servers to function as archives. Just a thought!
NetDocuments is a good option. Their API support and Outlook add-ins let you file emails directly into project folders. The add-in even predicts where to file based on your previous actions, which can be pretty handy. It’s not my favorite, but it might just cover what you need!
Check out CloudFiler! They offer API support and we were considering switching from MailManager to them. Just a heads up, they didn't have a US-based data center last I checked, but they were supposed to update us on any changes.
We're currently testing out MailArchiva, and it has a REST API. It's working well for our needs so far, though scripting isn't the main priority for us. You might want to give it a shot!
Yeah, that's a solid point! Sometimes, trying to force emails into a project filing system can overcomplicate things. Going for proper project management software might save a lot of headaches.
