I'm having a frustrating issue with my Mac and could really use some help! A while back, I was streaming shows online (not on reputable sites), and while trying to close multiple pop-ups, one of them said my Adobe Flash Player was out of date. Now, I keep getting these pop-ups every few minutes that say things like 'something out of date' or 'critical virus scan'—and they often have a settings icon attached. My Mac is running fine otherwise, but these pop-ups are really irritating. Does anyone have any tips to make them go away?

You might want to clear your Safari data. Here's how:
- In Safari, go to 'HISTORY' and select 'CLEAR HISTORY'.
- Check your homepage settings under 'Safari' in the menu.
- Click on 'SEARCH', then go to 'Manage Websites' to remove any weird search engines.
- In 'PRIVACY', click on 'Manage Website Data' and remove anything suspicious.
Clearing out these settings usually helps with pop-up problems.
If all else fails, the standard Apple advice is just to buy a new one, ha! But seriously, try the above suggestions first before considering a complete reset.
There are a few things you could try:
1. Check your browser settings for any enabled notifications.
2. Look through your installed applications for anything unfamiliar and uninstall it.
3. If that doesn’t help, consider using a tool like Disk Inventory X to see if there are any suspicious files.
4. As a last resort, a factory reset may be necessary; just be sure to back up your important files first!
It sounds like you might have enabled browser notifications. Try looking up how to disable browser notifications for the browser you're using, that could help stop the pop-ups!
I’ve turned off my browser notifications as suggested, and it seemed to work! Should I still be worried about what caused the notifications? I’ll definitely check for any odd files as well.
