Will My HDD Data Be Safe When I Switch to Linux?

Hey folks! I'm planning to ditch Windows and go for a Linux installation on my SSD, which is 256 GB. I've got a 1 TB HDD formatted as NTFS where I keep all my files and movies. I'm wondering if I can keep my data on that HDD without having to format it. Also, will Linux be able to read and write to the NTFS partition without issues?

Don’t forget to turn off fast startup in Windows before you wipe it, or you might end up with your files being read-only in Linux. Windows likes to hibernate instead of shutting down completely!

Yeah, you can definitely keep your files on that HDD without formatting it. Linux can handle NTFS pretty well for standard files, but if you're using NTFS for games or complex software, you might run into some problems. Just something to keep in mind!

Absolutely, as long as you mount the NTFS volume properly, it should work fine for storing your regular files. Just double-check everything during the installation!

You should be all set. Just remember to confirm that you're not formatting the HDD during the installation. If you're extra cautious, you could disconnect the HDD before the installation and connect it after—Linux works fine with NTFS.
